“The Guarantee of Grace”

God’s Grace is sufficient.  There are struggles in the Christian journey.  If you don’t have struggles and you are a Christian, something is wrong.  Sometimes we feel that we are the only one that is going through struggles. Paul understood tough times and that spiritual conflicts were and still are common to us. He wrote about the conflict of flesh and spirit in Romans 7:19.  Sometimes we want to give up. Often we ask the question why and why me?  Trouble seems to be on every hand.  You feel like giving up; but, that is the time to come to Church and mix with the saints.  Satin will do a job on you when you are all alone. You feel as if nothing is going right for you.  You feel like throwing in the towel.  But know that the Lord is a burden barrier.  Bring all your cares to Him in prayer.

Victory and Freedom comes through Grace.  It is guaranteed that there is no condemnation for those in Christ. This guarantee looks back to Paul’s struggle.  His conclusion is that Christ is the only one that can make that kind of guarantee for those in Christ.  Spirit triumphs over flesh.  John 3:19.  Our salvation is based on Faith.  We can’t be saved by observing the law.  There are people who have been in the church for along time and are still lost. Time bring about changes.  Galatians 2:16. Grace through faith.  We can’t work, sing or preach our way into Heaven, only faith in the Lord Jesus Christ will get us into Heaven. Romans 8:38-39.  What shall separate us from the love of Christ Jesus?  Constantly something or someone is trying to get us to turn around; Satin has many tricks.  Don’t let anything separate you from the Love of God.

Have you responded to God’s invitation?  Are you resting in God’s peace? Are you sharing his Love with someone else?  Tell someone body about Jesus!  Dr. Watts pinned “Amazing Grace”, I was lost; but, now I am found. I was blind; but, now I see.  God is able to open blinded eyes.  It was grace that thought my heart to fear. There is relief in God’s Grace.  Grace will lead me home.  This world is not my home. It’s been said that the weak will cease from troubling over there, and our weary souls will be at rest.  There will be no more pain, no suffering over there.  I long to hear him say well done. Grace gives understanding.  Grace will pick you up when you have fallen.  His Grace really is sufficient.  Paul said “When I desire to do good evil is always present”. “Lord if you will remove this thorn, I will serve you”.  Things happen that man can’t do anything about.  God said that “I reign on the just as well as the unjust”.

We need to stop complaining and just say “Lord I thank you”.  Thank you for the stumbling blocks.  Remember that all trouble doesn’t come from the devil. God suffers thing to happen in our lives to get our attention.  When we are sick enough we will listen to him because we want to get well.

Be thankful for the little things!

Here’s what happened last week:

Pass me not oh gentle Savior” – Congregation

Responsive reading – “Heaven” -  Revelation 21:1-3, 7-9-17

Savior let me walk with thee” – Sis. Frenchie Barnes

“Oh Lord bless me” – Sis. Sue Jennings.

Your Grace and Mercy” – Boyd Hill Hymn Choir.

Speaker of the day - Minister Hazel Hill

“How does your garden grow?”

One could imagine these words were spoken on the way to The Garden of Gethsemane. Probably as they were passing a vineyard. This is a parable of truth, fellowship and not son ship. It binds us one to  another in Christ with love. To abide in Christ is to keep our lives clean through his holy word and to obey his holy word. If we fail to do this we are like salt that has lost its flavor.

We can invite others to Christ by example. Roman 11:16 Roots form the vine. If the root is holy then the branches become holy. I Corinthians – If any man is in Christ he is a new creature. If a tree bares no fruit it is taken away. Jesus predicted betrayal. We must love God. There is no life unless there is a connection with Christ. We must confess our wrong doings.

Many pass as branches but produces no fruit. Matthew: 7:21- wherefore by the fruit you will know them. God is holy; we must be holy. Jesus came into the world that we might be saved. We all sin daily, but we must go through the praying process to be cleansed. Psalm 51 - We must depend upon Christ Jesus. Abide in Jesus; he will take care of the rest. He walks with me and talks with me. Ephesians 6:12 – for we wrestle not with flesh and blood. Paul tells us to be strong, by faith to lean and depend on God. The adversary is strong. God helps us walk in love and he always clears the way. Touch not my Prophet and do him no harm. He gives us so many chances. How does your garden grow? The answer should be through Christ Jesus. The world did not give it and the world can’t take it away.

Examine yourself and see if any good fruit has been produced. Know the Vine. Thank God for his blessings. My Savior lives. God is going to set us free of illness. We can’t do anything without God. He is our maker, our Creator our keeper. Stay connected with the vine. Anything you ask for in earnest, God will give it to you. Give God the Praise and the Glory. He teaches us how to love. Tell some body about Jesus. Tell everybody about Jesus!

Thought for the week: When we give God our hearts; he replaces it with peace.

So what happened at Boyd Hill Baptist Church on Sunday, August 3, 2008…..

“Send me I’ll go” – Bro. Bernard Champbell

Speaker of the Day
Pastor Johnny Pearson of Gethsemane Baptist Church - Greensboro, NC

Message - Numbers 10:29
“Come with us: we will do thee good”.

Moses gives a stern invitation to his father-in-law, Jethro, who was a pagan or non believer.  As we journey to Canaan, come with us.  Israel is called a church in the wilderness. Some comparisons that are note worthy, Hebrews were set free from Egypt.  We have been set free from sin.  They were covered by the blood of Passover; we are covered with the blood of the lamb.

We are on a journey to heaven.  Israel is like the church today.  God gives instructions through the scriptures.  Noah come into the arch, Isaiah 1:18 Come let us reason together, Isaiah 55:1 Come all who are thirsty. Matthew 11:30 Come unto me all that are heavy laden and I will give you rest.

The pastors are giving an invitation to come join the Christian faith.  Some people are saved but are not part of the Church.  There is the visible Church and the invisible Church.  God has people that he is working on.  God is the only one who can give the increase. The universal Church includes everybody.  Churches can be gathered and they can be scattered. “Come with us and we will do thee good”.  The Church is as divided as the world. This is why some people won’t come.  There are all types of Baptist, Four Gospel, Missionary, and Free Will.  Even the Baptist Churches are divided; we can’t agree on how to Baptize.

The church people are doing the same things that the people in the world are doing.  The thing that makes us different is that we came to Jesus.

The Church has done some good. Everything that is in Jesus is in the Church.  We are the body of Christ.  Some thing can happen in the Church that won’t happen at the night club or the ball game.  You can leave in a different way and never be the same.  The Church gives you a better shot at being healthy.  God knows how to build us back up when we are broken.  He has the cure. “Come with us we will do thee good”.  We will also receive some material good too.  God has promised to supply our needs.   Remember the story of when Jesus told Peter to go fishing and the first fish he caught Peter was instructed to look in the fish’ mouth. Take the gold coin and pay your taxes and pay mine too.

God is Eternal.  We won’t have to worry about tomorrow because God holds the future!

“Amazing Grace”- Hymn Choir

Benediction…

Communion for those who stayed!

Thought for the week  – “Quit gripping about your Church, if it were perfect you could not be a member”.

So what happened at Boyd Hill Baptist Church on Sunday, July 27, 2008…..

The morning started with Pastor Barber’s 8:00am prayer in the sanctuary. He asked for an unusual day, and his prayer was answered. The Sunday school lesson focused on Christ as Messiah (Matt. 16:13-23). Next, Deacons Bernard Walker and Wayne Jennings opened prayer service. Bro. Bobby Johnson from Flatrock lead I Thank You Lord. It moved the congregation and inspired praise.

We continued with a menagerie of songs as follows:

“Love lifted me” – congregation
“Because of Who You Are” – Betty Williams
“Faithful” – Willie “June” Hinton
“”No Body” – Georgia Hoyle
“Not my Battle” – Leslie McAlister
“My soul is anchored in the Lord” – Musician

We recognized and welcomed our visitors. Six visitors introduced themselves to the church. We also had the Church Aid Society in attendance. BHBC members and friends were pleased to provide a donation to the Society’s burial assistance fund. This fund helps those without insurance in their time of bereavement. We also recognized Sis. Anessia Alexander. This young lady received an invitation to attend the inauguration of the next President and Vice-President of the United States of America in January 2009.

Miss Anessia Alexander

Pastor Barber delivered a wonderful message entitled “Never the Less Opinion” from II Peter 3:13. God always tempt darkness with light. He brought light into this dark world and gives good news to the troubled people. In this scripture, a dark picture is being presented, but His grace is being announced. Blessed are those who take a long look. Sometimes we don’t look far enough into the future. We don’t look out for those who are coming behind us. We should lay a foundation for them to continue; something for them to build upon. We sometimes cause more problems in death because we did not consider at the day we would die. In order to truly live, we must be prepared to die. Keep in mind that the best is yet to come. Time truly is winding up. Verse 10 in this chapter lets us know that that day will come as a thief in the night. The world won’t expect it. It comes whether we expect it or not. We need to be real and not get wrapped up in this world. Most of what we get wrapped up in won’t come to pass anyway.

The earth will pass with a great noise. The earth and its work will burn up. Never the less a better day belongs to those that love the Lord. Don’t worry about being talked about and your name being scandalized. This will pass. There are some battles that are not ours. That’s why we need to know for sure that we are doing the Lords work. The promises of God out weighs the troubles of this world. Don’t worry about the dark days, God will give us brighter days. Sinner’s dreams will turn into nightmares. God knows what we are going through before we go through it. A new Heaven and a new earth are coming for those who wait on the Lord. He is coming back. The book of Revelation tells of The New Jerusalem, which descended from Heaven. There will be no tears, no more death, no sorrow, nor pain, no more good byes. We won’t have to worry. Everyday will be like Sunday.

This new day is right around the corner. Keep your hands in God’s hand. Jesus will wipe away the tears. We are all sinners, but never the less God’s grace is sufficient. Remember Luke 5 – the fishermen had pulled their nets in for the day. They had caught nothing all day. Jesus told them to cast the net on the other side. They began to grumble, but Peter said never the less. Some of our nets need to be cast on the other side because we are not doing anything on the present side. We must do what the Lord says do. When we are mistreated never the less, we must love. Hold on to God’s unchanging hand.

Victory is on the way!

The Gospel Chorus continued their 55th anniversary at 2:00 pm.

Thought for the day - Forgiveness is not an option for those that follow Christ.

So what happened at Boyd Hill Baptist Church on Sunday, July 13, 2008……

Deacon Alfonzo Walton and Al Walton opened our devotional service. Many songs were sung; however, “How Much More Shall Be Added Unto You? Ushered in a powerful spirit that lingered throughout the entire service.

The Adult Choir rendered songs during service. Their singing was excellent, and their $1,000 donation to the 100th Anniversary that made the day more enjoyable.

Pastor Barber’s message entitled “How Jesus Walked” provided a new aged look at what is really important in life. The scripture text for the message came from John 4:3-4 and I John 2:6. As we pondered what Jesus would drive in 2008, it quickly came irrelevant when you consider what’s important. It is more important to remember how Jesus walked in this world so that we can walk just like Him. He was in the world, but not off the world.

We recognized seven visitors, and one even joined the church and requested baptism.

Our thought for the week: We were called to be witnesses not lawyers or judges.

So what happened at Boyd Hill Baptist Church on Sunday July 6, 2008…………..

We had a glorious communion Sunday. The Gospel Chorus sang “Jesus Saves”, “At the Cross”, “God Said He Would Wipe Away These Tears From My Eyes”, “God is” and “God’s Got a Blessing”. The Hymn Choir sang, “Oh Lord I know That I Have Another Building” and “You’ll Be Standing Outside”.

Today’s message was “After the Communion,” which was taken from Matt. 26:30. Ready or not, He’s coming back. Jesus surrendered to God, and we should also surrender to our Lord and Savior. As you take communion what prayer or message will you be sending to God? Think about it!

We recognized birthdays and anniversaries. Sis. Henrietta Moore will celebrate her 89th birthday this month. God is so Awesome.

Our thought for the week: When you get ready to start gripping, count your blessings instead.

So what happened at Boyd Hill Baptist Church on Sunday, June 29, 2008……

Until next week……………..

Special thanks to those who contributed to the Amen Corner.

So what happened at Boyd Hill Baptist Church on Sunday, June 22, 2008…………

The opening song was "Oh how I love Jesus". Sis. Joan Gordon sung, "He's a Battle Ax".  Dea. Eddie Mitchell and Sis. Georgia Hoyle lead a song for the Mass Choir called "Sweeping through the City”. Dea. Patrick Kennedy led the song "Some How, Some Way, We're Gonna Make It”. The words to this song moved those in attendance to stand on their feet and attest to the words of this song. Unity and togetherness were felt as this song ministered to many people delivering a wonderful message.

The Hymn Choir" sang “I Wanna Hear That Trumpet Sound in the Morning!

Pastor Barber's message came from Psalm 25:1-8 His message was entitled "The teachers of the Sinners". The more God bless us it seems like the further we get away from Him. Appreciate the blessings God has bestowed upon us.

God is trying to teach us but we are too busy to stop and listen. Pastor Barber said that God meets us where we are in sin, and we should be glad he meets us where we are in sin.

He used a great analogy, which allowed the congregation to listen carefully and laugh about it. He referenced Ephesians 3:16 and Romans 5:8 with his analogy. He explained to us that he always uses the phrase "please be patient with me, God is not thru with me yet!”

God teaches sinners through the life of Christians. We ought to live so folk can see Jesus Christ in us. Souls are at stake. Jesus will teach us the right way if we only listen. How many people have you influenced to come to Christ?

When we respond to the love of God, you will be protected. Admit that you are a sinner, and God will come to your rescue. He'll open up your eyes and let you see a brand new day.

The thought for the week: "I don't know why some people change churches; what difference does it make which one you stay home from"

A glorious time was had by all at BHBC this week. The Mass Choir performed "Remember me", "I feel a break through coming my way" and "Jesus loves me". The Hymn choir sang, “Til I die”. The spirit was moving.

Pastor Barber sermon entitled "The Power of Prayer" came from Philippians 4:6-7. He sighted several biblical men who could attest to the power of prayer. Those men included James, Jeremiah, David, Daniel, and Jonah.

As Sis. Hester “Mom” Collins would say, “To God be the glory”, we had one man give his life to Christ.

Special thanks to Sis. Dorothy Barnette and Sis. Eyvette Long for contributing to the Amen Corner.

So what happened at BHBC on Sunday, May 11, 2008 aka “Mother’s Day”.

The men of BHBC did a spectacular job of preparing and serving breakfast to the women of the church. They even provided umbrellas and moved cars so the ladies would not get soaked by the rain. Chivalry is still alive at BHBC. (Praise God!)

Sis. Belinda Walker – Woman of the Year

Sis. Janie Hill – Award of Recognition

Sis. Ebony Bell – Award of Recognition

Sis. LaQuadra Walker – Mother of the youngest BHBC baby (Kahden Walker)

Our message for the day came from I Samuel 1:2-4

Thought for the Week – We don’t change the message, the message changes us.

So what happened at Boyd Hill Baptist Church on Sunday, June 29, 2008……

It was a glorious day at Boyd Hill Baptist Church. The Men’s choir performed “Don’t Worry About Me”, “Harvest Time”, and “Since Jesus Came Into My Life”. The BHBC’s Musical Choir made its debut under the direction of our very own First Lady Robbie Barber. Their mission is to praise God and minister to the souls by lifting up songs on praise from our hymnals. They did a wonderful job. Special thanks to our First Lady for sharing her vision and to Sis. Dotti Caldwell, Jr. for sharing her musical talents.

Pastor Barber delivered a much needed message from I Kings 18:20-21. The message was simple and straight to the point: “It is Time to Make a Choice.” When making a choice, he suggested that we “consult God instead of friends”. He also asked everyone to exam why they are coming to church. Finally, he noted that the more some people prosper, the less they give to God. He truly gave everyone something to think about.

After hearing the word, we had two young ladies join the church and request baptism.

Church family there are two things we need to do next Sunday. 1) Bring an item for someone else. It can be a food item. These items will be distributed to those in need. 2) Participate in the survey on new summer hours for Sunday morning service.

Thought for the week: He who forgives first wins.
